Biographical Description

James Campbell was a resident of Wilmington by 1734 and established himself as a merchant and innkeeper. In 1741 Samuel Bridgen filed a legal case against Campbell claiming that Campbell was withholding two enslaved people from him. Campbell died in New Hanover by 1756.
