Biographical Description

Moses, an African American man residing in Chowan County, North Carolina, was enslaved by John Campbell. In 1757 Moses came before the local freeholders court when he was accused of an unspecified felony. Although Moses plead not guilty, the court found him guilty and ordered his execution via hanging on August 22, 1757. Campbell later received compensation for the loss of Moses' labor. Any further information regarding this individual has not been located.
