Biographical Description

Rose, an African American woman residing in Northampton County, North Carolina, was enslaved by William Cathcart. In April 1772 Cathcart reported that Rose had "eloped," or self-emancipated. Cathcart believed that she was headed east towards Edenton. Any further information about this individual, including whether she ever returned to the Cathcart plantation, has not been located.
