Biographical Description

Moses Sumner was a resident of Hertford County, North Carolina. An owner of enslaved people, Sumner was a member of the local freeholders court which heard cases involving enslaved individuals. Sumner later served as a captain in the Hertford County Militia and as the county sheriff from 1788 to 1790. He died sometime after 1800.
