Biographical Description

Johnny, an African American man residing in New Hanover County, North Carolina, was enslaved by James Hasell Jr. In February 1768, Johnny came before the local freeholders court when he was charged with robbery. The court found Johnny guilty of the crimes and ordered him to be executed via hanging on February 9, 1768. Hasell was later compensated for Johnny's death. Any further records regarding this individual have not been located.
