James Hasell Jr. was born in Barbados in about November 1726. A resident of Wilmington, North Carolina, Hasell owned enslaved people. In 1768 one of Hasell's enslaved people, Johnny, was found guilty of robbery. When the court executed Johnny, they paid Hasell as compensation. Hasell died in Wilmington in about 1803.
