Biographical Description

Jack, an African American man residing in New Hanover County, North Carolina, was enslaved by Doctor John Corbyn. On February 8, 1768, Jack was on trial for robbery. The motivation behind his crime was not recorded. The court found Jack guilty and ordered his execution by hanging on February 9, 1768 in Wilmington. Corbyn later received compensation from the court for Jack's death. Any further records regarding this individual have not been located.
