Clarence James Webster "Clon" Ingle was born in Asheville (Buncombe County), North Carolina on December 14, 1887. Ingle served as a police officer for the city of Asheville on and off from 1907 up through at least 1939. His career as a member of the police force appears mixed at best—he had been accused of gambling with prisoners, assault upon at least two different women, and being involved in a scheme to intimidate a fellow patrolman into resignation. He died in Asheville on August 23, 1964.
