Robert Brodribb Stewart Hammond was born on June 12, 1870, in Melbourne, Australia. A social reformer and minister, Hammond visited North Carolina in June 1919 to inquire about the effects of state's prohibition laws upon the citizenry. He died on May 12, 1946.
