Jack was an African American man who was enslaved to an unknown individual. In June 1769 Jack stood trial after he was accused of robbing John Walker's store in New Bern, North Carolina. The motivation for his crime was not recorded, nor were the details of what he supposedly stole. After several days of sitting in the Craven County jail, the court found Jack guilty of the crime and ordered his execution as punishment.
