Biographical Description

Will, an African American man residing in Johnston County, North Carolina, was enslaved by Edward Ballenger. In 1768 Will had to come before the local freeholders court to testify in a trial involving three enslaved men who were accused of poisoning a plantation owner. The nature of Will's testimony was not recorded. Will was not named in Edward Ballenger's 1773 will, and no further records regarding him have been located.
