Newby, Mark

Biographical Description

Mark Newby was born in Perquimans County, North Carolina, in 1725 or 1726. A Quaker, he was appointed to appear before the NC General Assembly to defend a petition from the Eastern Quarter of Quakers advocating for the abolition of slavery in 1782. He died in Perquimans County in 1784.
