Timothy Bloodworth was born in New Hanover County, North Carolina in 1736. First elected to the North Carolina Colonial Assembly in 1758, he represented New Hanover at many state legislative sessions over the next three decades. A founder of the Wilmington Committee of Safety, Bloodworth helped shape Patriot policy for the new state. Later a U.S. Congressman, he served in the U.S. House from 1790 to 1791 and in the U.S. Senate from 1795 to 1801. He died in Beaufort County, North Carolina on August 24, 1814.
