Lauchlin Alexander Bethune was born on November 15, 1867, in Aberdeen, North Carolina. Bethune was an educator, newspaperman, businessman, banker, and state senator. He was a longtime resident of Clinton, North Carolina. He died in Clinton on October 23, 1953.
