Biographical Description

Samuel Cornell (1730-1781) was a prominent New Bern merchant who served as a member of the North Carolina Council from 1771 to 1775. In 1755, he joined other merchants, traders, and planters in petitioning the Board of Trade for relief on trade restrictions.
