Biographical Description

John Temple (1732-1798) was a Boston-born colonial administrator who served as surveyor general of customs in the Northern District of America (1761-1767), commissioner of revenue (1767-1774), lieutenant governor of New Hampshire (1761-1774), and as the first British consul-general to the United States (1786-1798).
