John David Braswell was born on May 27, 1873 (listed also as 1876), in Mitchell County, North Carolina. Braswell held several public offices, including sheriff, auditor, and register of deeds for Avery County and state senator representing Avery, Mitchell, Madison, and Yancey Counties. He died in Newland (Avery County) on December 25, 1953.
