Allen Jones (1739-1807) was a politician and soldier who represented Northampton County in the North Carolina Colonial Assembly from 1773 to 1775. Considered the county's largest slaveholder in 1768, he occasionally sat on local freeholders' courts which heard cases involving enslaved people. During the American Revolution, he served as the Brigadier General for the Halifax District Brigade of the North Carolina Militia. After the Gourd Patch Conspiracy was unveiled in July 1777 and the major of its leadership was captured, Governor Caswell ordered Jones to keep a guard at the Halifax prison and powder magazine to prevent any further disturbances.
