Henry Marchand Shaw was born in Currituck County on November 8, 1866. Shaw was the son of William Brenton Shaw, a state senator and attorney from Henderson (Vance County). He moved to Oxford (Granville County) around 1890, where he practiced law, owned several businesses, and served in a variety of civic organizations. He died in Tampa, Florida on April 18, 1926.
