William Person Little was born in North Carolina January 31, 1838. His family's wealth and status extended throughout his various relatives and cousins, including that of the Cotten family. He was a colonel and surgeon in the Civil War and married into Margaret Lane "Peggy" II of the prominent Mordecai family. He died in Raleigh, North Carolina on December 23, 1879.
