Biographical Description

William Campbell was born in Augusta County, Virginia in about 1745. A resident of Hanover County, Virginia he served as a colonel in the Virginia Militia and led troops during the Battle of King's Mountain and the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. In 1781 he became a general in the Virginia Militia and died in Hanover County, Virginia, possibly of a heart attack, on August 22, 1781.
