Thomas Deweese Carter was born in North Carolina on February 14, 1834. Carter was a newspaper editor and majority stockholder on the Western North Carolina Railroad during the 1870s. He was a long-time resident of Asheville (Buncombe County), North Carolina. He died on July 20, 1894.
