Biographical Description
Zenas Alexander Hovis was born on September 8, 1853 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Hovis was the founder and proprietor of Z. A. Hovis & Company, a funeral home. From 1907 until his death in Charlotte on September 10, 1919, he served as Mecklenburg County coroner.
