Biographical Description

Captain Aaron Blanchard was a Quaker born in North Carolina in about 1700. In 1717 the Chowan Nation submitted a complaint to the North Carolina Council stating that Aaron and Ephraim Blanchard had settled on their lands without permission. In 1735 the Chowan Nation submitted a complaint about Blanchard again, this time stating that he was illegally holding a patent to land on Bennett's Creek that rightfully belonged to the Chowans. The council ordered Blanchard to surrender the patent. In 1745 the Chowans ceded 460 acres to the Blanchards. Blanchard died in Chowan County in July 1751.
