Biographical Description

John Baptista Ashe became a resident of colonial North Carolina by 1718. Ashe soon launched a political career, serving as a member of the North Carolina Assembly for Beaufort from 1723 through 1727. In 1725 and 1726 he served as the speaker of that body. By 1731 Ashe moved southward into New Hanover, and he died in about October 1734.
