Biographical Description

Francis Ervin was a blacksmith in Perquimans County, North Carolina. In 1759 an enslaved man named Ben stole a gun from Ervin's shop. When Ervin discovered the theft, he captured Ben, who bit him. Ervin later testified against Ben during Ben's trial. As a result the court found Ben guilty. Ervin may have later resided in Dobbs County, North Carolina.
