Biographical Description

Cate Collings was an American Indian woman of an unknown tribal origin. Eighteen years old by 1765, she was enslaved as a servant to William Gibbs. That year the Hyde County court considered granting her freedom. The outcome of the case, as well as any further information about this individual, has not been located.
