Biographical Description

Peter Stansell was born in North Carolina in about 1742. A resident of Pitt County, North Carolina, in 1778 he gave a sworn deposition before the local court regarding the death of Jim Bowser, an African American boy enslaved by Jehu Tison. After the American Revolution, Stansell resided in Cumberland County, North Carolina. He died sometime after 1810.
