Biographical Description

William McTyer was a resident of Dobbs County, North Carolina. In 1762 Priscilla Allen, also of Dobbs County, claimed that enslaved people owned by McTyer and McTyer's father-in-law James Adair had enticed Allen's enslaved people to leave the Allen home. If McTyer was punished for the crime, he did not lose prominence as he later became a justice of the peace and a major in the local militia. McTyer died in Robeson County, North Carolina in about September 1778.
