Biographical Description

Beck, an African American individual residing in Johnston County, North Carolina, was presumably enslaved by the Bryan family. In November 1780 Beck testified before the local freeholders court regarding Jenney, an enslaved woman charged with poisoning her enslaver Lewis Bryan. The content of Beck's testimony was not recorded, but the court found Jenney guilty and sentenced her to be executed. Any further information regarding this individual has not been located.
