Robert Sawyer was a resident of Pasquotank County, North Carolina. A cooper and plantation owner, in 1733 Sawyer witnessed a bond in which a free African American man named Anthony acknowledged his debt to John Connyer. Sawyer died in Pasquotank in about 1735.
