Benjamin Ward was born in Onslow County, North Carolina in about 1720. Ward married his cousin Mary Ward and the couple resided together on a plantation in Onslow. Sometime between 1767 and July 1768 Benjamin Ward died. In November 1769 Cuff, an African American man enslaved by the Wards, was found guilty of murdering Benjamin Ward via poison.
