In the Western part of Madison County, in the mountain section, quite a number of deserters banded together are conceiling themselves, and, during the night, shooting into houses, imposing on our women folks, stealing and destroying our property. Are heavily armed and resist arrest. We as citizens of Madison County ask your autority to use such means to bring them to justice or, in other words, will you authorize us as citizens to summons other good citizens to our aid and use any means to capture these men.
