Major R. P. Atkinson held the position of Chief Engineer of the W. N. C. R. R. from its commencement to final completion, and also that of superintendent of construction during the last year of its construction. During all that time he discharged his duties faithfully and to the entire satisfaction of the company.

We take pleasure in recommending him to the board of Internal Improvements, as being eminently gratified to fill the office of Chief Engineer and Superintendent of Construction of the Western North Carolina Rail Road.
