October 9th, 1918.

Mr. W. B. Stone,
Chairman Local Exemption Board,
Tryon, N.C.

My dear Sir:-

I have it on the very best information in the world that Rufus Durham is engaged in running blockade stills in Polk County.1 I do not know whether he is between eighteen and forty-five or not; if he is I want you to put him in Class 1A immediately and send him to camp on the very first call. I am absolutely certain that he makes his living by engaging in the whiskey business, and am willing to assum the responsibility for your action in the premises.

Very truly yours,

[unsigned]
