Dear Governor Bickett:-
Your letter of April 14th. came in the last mail, and while I am tremendously busy, I could not let the day go by without writing to tell you that your letter has more than confirmed many good things that has been told the writer about your administration as Governor. We have a lady of your city in our office, who has told us how you had dug into prison matters and of the splendid improvements.
I may have gone too far in my enthusiasm to bring the matter forcibly to your attention by bringing the Federal Government into the question. The letter that I received was so revolting that it prompted me to make the statement which was discourteous to you and entirely out of order, and I hope that you will entirely forget it and erase it from your mind.
I am very much interested in the quotation from your message to the State Legislature, and I am sure that you have spoken my own personal sentiments in the matter.
Hoping that I may sometime have the pleasure of meeting you personally and thanking you for your courteous letter and for your prompt action in investigating the matter that was brought to your attention.
