To the Honrble President & Council

The Humble Petition of Jno Hoyter & Rest of the Chowan Indians in all Humble Maner Complaining & Shewing

That whereas upon the Humble Petition of the sd Indians to the Honrble Board in the time when the Honrble Henderson Walker Esqr was President of the Councill an Order was past that the Surveyr Genrll or Depty Should Lay out a tract of Land for the sd Indians of six miles square and allso another Order in the time of the Honrble Landgrae Robt Daniel Esqr pursuent to the former Order

In pursueance of the aforsd Order the Depty Surveyr Viz Capt Luten Came & undertook the sd Survey & by Various Courses Did Law out a tract of Land for the sd Indians but wholy Contrary to the Intent & meaneing of the sd Order for the Petitioner are very Confident that the Intent of the Councill was that such Land should be layd out for them as would produce Corn for theire support & the petitionrs do Say & are Ready to averr that no part or parcell of te sd Land in the sd trace Layd out will produce Corn being all pines & Sands & Deserts so that they have not thier Land according to the Intent & meaneing of the Honble Board neither for quality nor quantity it being not near Six miles Square.

Wherefore your Humble Petitionrs do humbly Pray your Hons to take our Distressed Condition into yr serious Consideration [damaged] your Petitionrs may have Releife in the Premisses Least [damaged]rrish for Bread

And yr Petitionrs shall Every Pray &c
