My dear Sir:-

I have just read with a great deal of interest of your letter of the 25th and am filing the same for future reference.

As you say in the last paragraph of your letter there is nothing I can do about the matter as it now stands. It is almost impossible to settle these matters at long range. I trust that there will be no further trouble in Gaston county. As you are attorney for the laboring people permit me to make this suggestion. If any trouble should arise in the future please advise the laboring people if they desire any assistance from this office to call on me before there is a strike. I think that strikes should not be resorted to until every other remedy has failed, and if I can settle a strike I ought to be able to prevent one.
