Biographical Description

Edmund Booker was born in Essex County, Virginia on October 17, 1719. A resident of Amelia County, Virginia, he served in the House of Burgesses from 1758 to 1761 and also served as a local justice of the peace. A local militia captain during the French and Indian War, Booker became Amelia County's sheriff in 1772. An owner of multiple enslaved people, one of Booker's enslaved people ran away, was captured, and later went on trial in Northampton County, North Carolina. When Tom, the enslaved man, was executed, Booker received compensation. Booker died in Amelia County in January 1793.
