Biographical Description

George Stewart was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in about 1740. He moved to Guilford County, North Carolina, and served as a captain in the Guilford County Regiment of the North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution. He came into command after the death of Captain Arthur Forbis shortly after the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. It is unclear what rank Stewart held prior to Forbis' death. Stewart died in sometime after February 1793.
