John Hunt was born in Granville County, North Carolina on August 5, 1755. The son of North Carolina's first state treasurer, Hunt obtained a post as the clerk of the North Carolina House, in which seat he served from 1778 to 1806. He died in Franklin County, North Carolina on October 9, 1807.
