Biographical Description

James Davis (1721-1785) was a colonial officeholder, newspaperman, and politician in New Bern. Davis served as North Carolina's first printer (1749-1782), representative of New Bern and Craven County in the Assembly (1755-1760), and judge of the Admiralty Court (appointed 1771), among other offices.
