Biographical Description

Candice was an African American woman residing in Dobbs County, North Carolina who was enslaved by Andrew Allen. When Allen died on November 13, 1762, he left the ownership of Candice and seven other enslaved people to Priscilla Allen, his wife. That same night a group of white men entered the Allen home and forced all eight of Allen's enslaved people to leave the house and come with them. The motivation for this action, as well as any repercussions that came from it, were not recorded. Any further records regarding this individual have not been located.
