Biographical Description

Serina, an African American woman residing in Chowan County, North Carolina, was enslaved by Solomon King. In 1752 Serina was convicted of stealing a chest containing thirty-three pounds worth of Virginian currency from her enslaver's store. The court put a value on Serina of fifty pounds, indicating that she was found guilty of the theft and likely sentenced to be executed. King would have them received compensation for Serina's death. Any further records regarding this individual have not been located.
