Bartholomew Evans was born in Pasquotank Precinct, North Carolina sometime between 1705 and 1710. A planter, Evans owned eighteen enslaved people at the time of his death. In 1741 Scipio, an African American man that Evans had enslaved, was found guilty of theft. When the court executed Scipio for the crime, they paid Evans as compensation. Evans died in Pasquotank by January 1745.
