The Tryal Examination and Condemnation of a Negro man Slave called Scipio at a Special Court called and held the 22nd. day of February anno Dom 1741, the property of Mr. Bartolemew Evans for felony and Burglary, to witt

Present the Worshipfull Thomas Hunter, James George, David George Esqrs: Justices—

Gentlemen Thomas Pendleton, Symon Bryan, Thomas Woodley, Oliver Salter Freeholders—

That the afsaid Negro Scipio on the Eighteenth day of February in the night time on the plantation of Mr: William Turner in the County afsd. the store house of Mr. James Gregory ^merchant^ on the said plantation broke open and there Feloniously did take & carry away Sundry dry goods the property of the said James Gregory to the Value of Two hundred pounds Currt: Bills of North Carolina—

Then the afsaid Mr. James Gregory being called declared upon the holy Evangelist that on the 18th day of February in the year afsaid in the night time his store house was broak open & Sundry sets of Dry goods was taken away to the Value of two hundred ^pounds^.

The afsaid Negro Scipio being called and Examined concerning the premises, afsd Confest he broak open the store house and took away the goods, and returned them to the said James Gregory—

[damage] [Jus]tices & Freeholders [damage] It was Further Considered by the afsaid Majestrates & Freeholders that the said Bartholemew Evans be paid by the Publick the Sum Twenty Nine Pounds Seven Shillings Proclamation money for the said Negro Scipio Given under our hands & Seals the 13th day of Aprill anno Dom 1742—

The within Claim was allowed april 2d. day 1743—
