Daniel, an African American man residing in Bute County, North Carolina, was enslaved by William Williamson. In May 1768 Daniel and another enslaved man named Ned came before the local freeholders court, where they were accused of poisoning Williamson. The motive and means of poison were not recorded. The court found Daniel guilty and sentenced him to execution by hanging. Williamson's wife Martha later received compensation for Daniel's death. Any further records regarding this individual have not been located.
