James Hinton Pou was born on July 21, 1861, in Tuskegee, Alabama. Pou served three terms in the North Carolina General Assembly (as a representative in 1885 and 1888 and senator in 1892) and was a renowned trial lawyer in Raleigh, North Carolina. He died in Raleigh on July 29, 1935.
