Biographical Description

John Lyon was a merchant and justice of the peace in colonial New Hanover County from at least 1755 to 1768. He was the county sheriff from 1768 to 1770. He also served on a number freeholders courts, which considered legal cases involving enslaved individuals. He died by May 1782.
