Peleg Belote (d. 1793) was a resident of Bertie County. In 1777, motivated by a fear that the State of North Carolina was seeking to erode the importance of the Protestant religion, he swore three oaths of secrecy and became a member of the Gourd Patch Conspiracy. Belote later became hesitant in involving himself in the plot when he learned that the conspiracy's leaders planned to violently oppose the state and seize a powder magazine. When the plot was discovered, he made a deposition regarding his knowledge of and involvement in the plot before the Bertie County Court.
